Petoskey Rotary Club – Noon – October 8, 2014
 
The Club started the weekly gathering with “America The Beautiful”
 
The invocation was read by B.J. Shawn.
 
The names of the seven $50.00 calendar winners were read.
 
Our music director Steve, led us in a fairly good rendition of “Lean on Me’.  This was a good choice.
 
Visiting Rotarians – We welcomed Moose Dunn and Bret Ellison.
 
Membership Proposal – The following individuals have completed their Fireside Chat and are moving forward toward active membership.  If you have any questions, concerns, or if you would just like more information regarding these applicants, please contact a board member within the next two weeks.
 
1.  John S. Emley is being proposed by Bill Hicklen.  Mr. Emley is a former Rotarian from Dallas, Texas, His proposed classification would be “Petroleum Refining”.  Mr. Emley is a former V.P. - Supply Change Management for Valero Petroleum in San Antonio Texas.  Mr. Emley would contribute computer and electrical engineering skills as well as providing a strong background in Leadership to the Club.
 
2.  Mark Coopersmith is being proposed by Angela Cranney.  Mr. Coopersmith is applying to the associate membership program.  Mr. Coopersmith has been a Walgreens’ store manager for over 20 years and has opened six stores during his career.  Mr. Coopersmith is very active in numerous charity events and due to his active involvement in the community, he would be a positive addition to the club.
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
November 4th Election Day – Please continue to work on your 10 “Yes” Votes for the Sports Complex.
 
Bill’s Farm Market – Saturday, October 11th.  The Morning and Evening Clubs will be raising funds by selling donuts.  Please support if you are in the vicinity or there buying your own pumpkins.
 
Calendar Sales - Rob Rogier explained the stub submission process.  He also reminded us that we receive $10.00  from each sold calendar,  If we would each sell one additional calendar, we would make an additional $1,000 to be used toward a sponsored charity.
 
Billy Duff Cabin – Thursday October 9th.  Come anytime in the afternoon with a dish to pass.  There will be NO BIKING this year to the cabin.
 
Highway Pickup - Dave Thomas personally thanked those members who were responsible for collecting 36 Bags of trash from the highway.  What an incredible effort.
 
Public Forums Sports Complex – There will be two public forums to describe and answer quests regarding the millage request.  The forums will be held at the Middle School Auditorium at 7:00 PM on October 22nd and again on October 29th.  Please let people know of this event, especially those persons who are on the fence with their vote.
 
PROGRAM
 
Our own Mike Fay from Boyne shared some of his accomplishments this year in his mission to grow the game of golf.  Mike was awarded the honor by US Kids Golf, of being one of the top 50 golf teachers.  We also were informed of the following:
  • The New Boyne Golf Academy
  • Golf Fitness Program
  • Golf training Equipment i.e. “The Eye”
  • And the possibility of going to Florida to train with Mike this winter.
