Program:
Jeff Winegard. Executive Director and Steve Biggs, President of the Top of Michigan Trails Council were here today to present and discuss the Strategic Trail Development Plan. (www.trailscouncil.org)  The theme of the presentation was “The Opportunity to build out trails, is the opportunity to build our communities!”  The Council is the catalyst that is delivering to our Northern Michigan communities a powerful and growing asset.  This asset is now returning dividends of health, safety, recreation and trail tourism.  With nearly 300 miles of completed and trails in progress, the Council is viewed throughout the State as the leading group That Makes Trails Happen!  The Top pf Michigan Trails Council (TOMTC) is looking to develop the ultimate Trailhead.  TOMTC is proposing to relocate to a larger space that is more accessible and closer to the Little Traverse Wheelway.  The advantages of this proposes location would be:
1.  The space is in a historically significant building located on a heavily traveled section of M119 and the Little Traverse Wheelway that is highly visible and accessible;
2.  The building and location would provide greater visibility and membership for the TOMTC administrative office and provide an important resource for trail users;
3.  Conference and workroom space would be available;
4.  The building will serve as a trails “Chamber of Commerce” and be an information center and event venue;
5.  The TOMTC contributions to the local and regional economy will be greatly enhanced by this unique location.
The price tag for the project is $400.000.
