STRIVE 2014-2015 Awards Banquet:  Many, many thanks to Reg Smith for hosting and underwriting a most beautiful banquet. Reg and his staff made a special occasion even more special. Scholarship Winners:  The following students achieved the highest increase in their grade point average (GPA) during the two year period and were awarded scholarships: First Place: Dameon Spencer received a one year scholarship to NCMC, including all fees and tuition, complements of NCMC; Second Place: Justin Howell who received a $1,000 Rotary scholarship and Third Place: Sam Juntunen who received a $750 Rotary scholarship. Community Conversation:  Lorraine Manary announced a community meeting, sponsored by Bridge Magazine, and focused on economic conditions and poverty. The event will be held on May 21st from 6:30 to 8:30 at the Fairgrounds
 
Rotary Park Fund:  Bob Waldvogel announced that we’re very close to opening up the 2015 Grant Cycle. We’re working through some last minute logistics and anticipate being able to make the official announcement soon. Details to follow
 
11th Annual Brain Bowl:  We will not be participating in this event as we could not come up with a team. We will try again next year. Thanks to those who did sign up
 
Program Committee:  The Club would like to thank Roger Winslow for his outstanding job in bringing us worthwhile programs every week. Lynde Richards has agreed to take up the challenge. Roger and Ingrid Flemming will serve as her Committee. Anyone else interested in assisting Lynde should contact her
 
Adopt a Highway:  Mark your calendars now for Saturday, September 26th, 2015 for the next highway cleanup
   
Bay View Summer Program:  Anne McDevitt distributed the Program Guide for the summer. Please know they are now available
 
Petoskey Tourist Guide 2015:  Reg Smith has made the guide available. Please pick one up when you come for lunch
 
MANNA:  Volunteers are always needed. Thursday May 14, 2015 will be the last backpack Day until the fall. The time is from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Manna Warehouse on McBride Park Drive
 
Billy Duff Cabin:  Save the date; Thursday May 21st, 2015. The cost is $10.00 for great ribs. Everyone is asked to bring a dish to pass. There will also be group biking to the event. Contact Jim Beno if you are interested in joining this group. Please sign-up if you have not already done so. If you signed up and cannot attend, please have your name removed from the list
 
Petoskey Department of Public Safety 6th Annual Open House:  Saturday June 6th, 2015 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Fire Station. Free hot Dogs and Drinks and Free Gifts for Children. Come watch a Firefighter water ball competition and come see the Emergency Response Team Vehicles and Equipment

Foundation Raffle Tickets:  In order to have a chance at $5,000 we need to buy/sell 95 tickets. Tickets are $20.00. If you are interested in buying a ticket, or selling a few, please contact Chris Etienne

Table Stewards:  If you would be interested in heading up and forming a table for eight, please contact Dave Thomas or Cindi Bauer
 
Solicitation for Auction Items:  Please coordinate with Cindi Bauer or Ingrid Flemming regarding the businesses you will be contacting. A Master List has been created which will be used by both our Club and the Trails Council. We do not want to have more than one person contacting business owners for a donation. Your assistance with this endeavor will be greatly appreciated
 
PROGRAM
Chris Etienne introduced Sarah Sanderson, our District 2015 Rotary Peace Scholar. Ms. Sanderson’s presentation was “Life in the Middle: Finding Linguistics and Cultural Competency in a Global Age”. The purpose of the scholarship and how one applies was discussed. This information can be found on the Rotary Foundation website. Ms. Sanderson can also be contacted for more information.  (Sanderson.58@osu.edu or 616-335-0419). Please think about persons you may know who may meet the criteria for this scholarship
