Back to Bay View:  June 3, 2015 will find our meetings back at the Bay View Inn. We would all like to thank the staff of the Perry for the wonderful food and service they provided during the past winter months. KUDOS!
 
Service Across the Generations:  Hosted by Independence Village of Petoskey, this is a special event, co-hosted by the U.S. Army, honoring veterans. There will be a swearing in of new recruits, a test of your strength as you compete in games with Army servicemen, and the chance to explore Humvees and other classic Army vehicles. To register for the Veteran’s Honor ceremony, please call 231-348-8498 by June 25th. BUZZED: Guinness World Record Attempt:  The Harbor Barber will be attempting to break the world record for the most haircuts in a 24-hour period. If you are willing to get a buzz cut, and donate to a great cause, Harbor Light Christian School, then please call the Harbor Barber at 231-526-4299 today to set up your appointment with history. Heads are needed; patrons will be given the option of a #1, #2, or #3 clipper blade buzz cut. Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction:  John Calabrese requested that Rotarians consider supporting Carl VanderWall and his family through a difficult journey. Carl, an active DNR conservation officer, has recently been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. The dinner will be held Sunday, June 7th at the Emmet County Fairgrounds Community Building from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Minimum Dinner donation is $5.00 per person. Contributions can also be made through the “Thin Blue Line of Michigan” (TBLOFM), a non-profit organization whose mission is to serve by helping all of Michigan’s Public Safety Officers and their families. Petoskey Department of Public Safety 6th Annual Open House:  Saturday June 6th, 2015, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Fire Station. Free hot Dogs and Drinks and Free Gifts for Children. Come watch a Firefighter Water Ball Competition and come see the Emergency Response Team Vehicles and Equipment
 
Pedal for Polio:  Save the Date, June 14th. Sign-up sheets will be circulating on June 3rd

Foundation Raffle Tickets:  In order to have a chance at $5,000 we need to buy/sell 95 tickets. Tickets are $20.00. If you are interested in buying a ticket, or selling a few, please contact Chris Etienne or Jane Millar
 
Diamonds & Denim:  Cindi Bauer distributed “Save the Date” postcards. Please get them out to persons you think may be interested. Also, make your reservations in order to ensure seating
 
Solicitation for Auction Items:  Please coordinate with Cindi Bauer or Ingrid Flemming regarding the businesses you will be contacting. A Master List has been created which will be used by both our Club and the Trails Council. We do not want to have more than one person contacting business owners for a donation. Your assistance with this endeavor will be greatly appreciated
 
Paul Harris Fellow “Deal”:  For a short time you will be able to sponsor a Fellow for $500.00. The District will match the additional $500.00. Contact Jane Millar for more information
 
PROGRAM
Today’s program was the 23rd Annual Teacher of the Year Award Ceremony. This year’s recipient was Kristen Frey, a 4th and 5th Grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary in Petoskey. John Hurd was the master of Ceremonies. He began by thanking the Interview Committee comprised of Bob Metzger, Bill Winslow, Roger Winslow and Steve Brummeler. John Scholten was also recognized for his exemplary leadership. Julie Bergman, Principle of Lincoln   Elementary was introduced and briefly described how Mrs. Frey met the 9 traits of an exemplary teacher. They are as follows:
  1. Respects Students;
  2. Creates a sense of community and belonging in the classroom;
  3. Warm, accessible, enthusiastic and caring;
  4. Sets high expectations for all students;
  5. Has her own love of learning;
  6. Skilled leader;
  7. Can shift gears easily;
  8. Collaborates with colleagues on an ongoing basis;
  9. Maintains professionalism in ALL areas.
Mrs. Frey received a personal check for $250.00, a check for $250.00 was sent to the school, an appropriately inscribed school bell and of course, the obligatory plaque, were presented to Mrs. Frey. Mrs. Frey introduced her family and graciously thanked the Club
