Calendar Winners:  Past President, Joe Blachy, announced the calendar winners this week. Joe was Club President 1990-91. Joe asked that Rotarians not look backward, but rather, forward. ANNOUNCEMENTS

Induction Michael Spencer:  Elizabeth Stacy and Melissa Thompson performed the honors today. Mike is a returning Michigan native who has spent the last decade journeying through 37 states and 16 countries. Along, the way, after launching from his home base in Grayling, Mike earned his Business bachelor's at Grand Valley and then headed West to Washington State to work for an accounting software company. He moved on to Bozeman Montana and earned a Master’s in Public Administration, with a focus in local government and environmental policy, at Montana State University. Mike headed back to Michigan and served 7 years as the Planning Director of the City of Charlevoix, and briefly as the acting City Manager after Rod Straebel resigned to become City Manager here in Petoskey. Eight months ago, Mike left city government and took the position of Executive Director of Bay View Association. Mike enjoys fly fishing, hunting, running, golf and boating

Mike is married to Jessica Kenzie Spencer, a local landscape architect, and they are the proud parents of Avery

STRIVE:  The STRIVE Banquet was held on May 10, 2016 at Stafford’s Bay View Inn. Today we had the pleasure of meeting and recognizing the three students who excelled in the program.  They are: 1.) Marilyn Rockey who received a one year scholarship at NCMC. Her mentor was Katlyn Hansen. 2.) Alexis Girard received a $1,000 check. Her mentor was Deb Noblett. 3.) Jordan Conklin received a check for $750. Jordan also received the award for Attendance and also for Attitude. His mentor was Jim Wibby.

Back to Bayview:  June 1, 2016 we will be returning to our summer home

Top of Michigan Trails:  The 10K walk or Run will start at the Trails Council Office and will end up in Harbor Springs. The Club will be sponsoring an Aid Station for the Memorial Week-end Marathon Event. The event is on May 28th from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm. We need folks to sign up for the aid station

We still need three more runners! See Angie Cranney to sign up. Time and place assignments will be e-mailed on May 24th

Spring Fling Party/Billy Duff Cabin:  The date is June 2, 2016. Dearborn Ham and beverages will be provided. Please bring a dish to pass. This can be appetizers, vegetables, salads or desserts. Bikers will be meeting at Beno Clinic on M-119 at 2:00 p.m.

Beach Bums:  Save the Date of June 11, 2016 to attend a ball game in Traverse City. Cost will be $8.00 and we need 25 people to go

PROGRAM

Christian Smith introduced Kate Manthei who gave an excellent presentation on her role in the city and also new and upcoming events. Kate shared the following new innovations she has spearheaded:

  • A new , more contemporary, City Logo;

  • An online business directory with search engine;

  • Shopping Maps

  • Holiday catalog Past and Presents. This catalog has links to the stores so shopping can be accomplished online.

  • An Events Committee that has planned a number of events. A few of them are:

    • Summer Open House June 3, 2016

    • Taste of Downtown

    • Gallery walk June 16th

    • Petoskey Rocks Summer Series – Every Friday night during July and August

    • Sidewalk Sales July 29th-30th

    • Shopping Scramble October 1

    • Hemingway Harvest Festival October 14-15th
