Weekly Newsletter for April 22, 2009ROTARY INFORMER for April 22, 2009 Cool and gray. Spring coming?? Petoskey Rotary Club Charities will have 2 trustee positions open as of 7/1/09. The term is 2 years. The election will be held on 5/13/09. The nominating committee currently has 2 candidates. Nick White brought the program today. He has visited Cuba 8 times since 1995 primarily on missions sponsored by the United Methodist Church. He said it was hard to tell whether the badly rundown conditions were the results of 50 years of Communism or the recent hurricanes. He said there is severe rationing and many live in poverty. He also said that the suggestion that there is good health care is false, good health care is available only to those with cash to pay and those are mainly tourists. He said the recent hurricanes left 100,000 people homeless. He showed us a slide show of architecture. He explained that the major highways are designed to be runways for fighter planes. He said the people are friendly and industrious and like Americans. Signs proclaiming the “wonderful revolution” are every where but the people know better. |
