Petoskey Rotary Noon Club NEWSLETTER – November 12, 2014

Four Way Test – Thank you Steve Brummeler.

Thought for the Week – B.J. Shawn recited her poem: “Rotary…It’s Bigger than Both of Us!”
It’s bigger than both of us…Rotary is!
It’s city and it’s state
It’s country and world……..
There is no limit… and there is no last date,
Yes……….it’s bigger than both of us!
It’s dollars and time,
It’s your effort and mine.
It’s rewarding and boring.
It’s inspiring and it’s kind…
Yes…it’s bigger than both of us!
It’s friendship and tolerance,
It’s a laugh and a cry,
It’s hopeful and frustrating, it aims for the sky!
Yes…it’s bigger than both of us!
It’s giving and sharing,
Its demanding at times,
It’s generous and far reaching,
It’s learning and teaching,
Yes…it’s sooooooo  bigger than both of us!
It changes and it doesn’t,
Due to life and it’s end.
It cures and it promotes,
It fixes and it mends.
Oh yes….it’s bigger than both of us!
Rotary is here and it’s over there to…
We’re all a part of it…me and you.
We love what it gives,
And we love what we receive…
Because… it’s bigger than both of us.

Thank you, B.J. Outstanding!

Paul Harris Fellow – Russ Langs was a man of passion.  He was passionate about Rotary.  He was passionate about the Rotary Foundation, his community, and the Community Athletic Complex.  He would have loved Diamonds & Denim.  He was passionate about his family; especially Karen.  Russ’ passion was contagious.  How could anyone say no to Russ, even when we didn’t even agree with him?  That is why it meant so much to our club to present Russ with a Paul Harris Fellow from our members.  Unfortunately, Russ died before we had the opportunity to honor him. Today, a day of celebration of the Rotary Foundation, we also celebrate Russ Langs and his passion for life itself.  Karen Langs received the pin, not only in memory of Russ, but also in honor of the life he led. She was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow Pin+7. What a great tribute.

Sing Along –“Rock Around the Clock” was the tune selected for today and we sounded great

  • Vocational training workshops.
The areas of studies are as follows:

  • Maternal and Child Health
  • Basic Education and Literacy

  • Peace and Conflict Resolution and Prevention
Nathan shared his experiences and research findings as a student attending the Hebrew University of Jerusalem where he was awarded an International Master of Public Health (IMPH).  His class consisted of 21 students from 17 countries.  The IMPH is a very intense 12 month program providing its students with the tools necessary for examining public health problems and formulating relevant responses at the institutional, community and national level. Nathan will be going on to medical school now. He also shared of the many Rotary activities that he has participated in so it is believed that Rotary will benefit for his entire lifetime if his past is any indication of his service to Rotary.

Special Announcement: Sandra Lee Photography Studio donated her time and effort to our Diamonds and Denim event. She took many fine photographs of the many Rotarians that came to the event. There was a link included on the Facebook Page and in a previous bulletin. For her efforts of the donation, she has received less than $100.00 in prints ordered. Please look at the following link and consider ordering a print or more to support the amazing donation that she gave. We need to support the people that supported us. Thank you.
