ANNOUNCEMENTS

Frankenmuth Fondo:  Terry Newton will be participating in the Frankenmuth Fondo Ride on Saturday, August 12 and is looking for support! Donations to support his ride will help struggling and disadvantaged individuals and families in the local area. All proceeds from this event will go to the Frankenmuth Rotary Helping Hands Fund, which helps those in need—anything from replacing water heaters, paying overdue medical bills, helping abused women and children resettle, replace hearing aids for elderly people who are making decisions to eat rather than hear because they cannot afford both and many others. See Terry to make a tribute to his efforts.

Message From the Treasurer:  Check your mailboxes! Dues have been mailed out for the quarter. Have any questions please see Jim Wibby.

Calendar Sales Update:  We ordered 2,500 calendars, with 1,400 coming to our club. A few members opted out of selling and will donate in-lieu of sales.

Fall Festival:  Fall Festival is around the corner on October 7! If you want to join the committee or help out, please contact Karen Ragland.

Thrive 45 Announcement:  Please join us at a special Thrive 45 engagement event on Thursday, August 3 in the Rose Garden at the Perry Hotel where our very own Jeff Wynder will be performing with Reg Smith’s daughter, Jessica, with their band Lejet.

NOTE ABOUT ANNOUNCEMENTS:  Going forward, announcements will be limited to Rotary-specific topics. If you have an announcement for personal or work projects, fundraisers, opportunities, or campaigns, you can email Terry Newton or Andrea Coronado to be shared in the newsletter and on social media. This will aid our efforts to keep meetings to one hour.

PROGRAM:  David Kaplan – Titanic, Myths and Truths

David Kaplan has had a fascination and love for the Titanic his whole life and hosts Titanic dinners and presentations around the country and abroad. A member of the Titanic Historical Society for more than four decades, Kaplan has acquired a lot of information and even met several Titanic survivors. For our meeting, David took us through a brief history of the Titanic with a “True or False” theme to debunk many myths about the Titanic and its sinking. From lifeboats and coal fires, to icebergs and rivets, you’d be surprised what you do-and-don’t-know about one of the world’s most infamous disasters.

Next Week’s Program:  Bob Howse – 7000-mile Great Loop Waterway. Longer Program
