Petoskey Rotary Noon Club NEWSLETTER

November 1, 2023

101 Years of Service Above Self

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Petoskey. President Reg Smith officiated the meeting.

If you did not get the chance to attend, you can read about it in this newsletter.

Pledge/Anthem:  Howard Richards was not in attendance, so we recited the Pledge of Allegiance

4-Way Test:  Jeff Wynder

Invocation:  Becky Phillipp-Kranig

I have two quotes I want to share today.  Because today is the first day of November, my first quote is from Charmaine J Forde:

“Don’t wait until the fourth Thursday in November, to sit with family and friends to give thanks. Make every day a day of Thanksgiving.” – Charmaine J Forde

I also wanted to share this quote today because of everything happening in the world:

"Keep your thoughts positive, because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive, because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive, because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive, because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive, because your values become your destiny."

Hunters Stew to Support the Manna Food Project:  For those that missed the flyer on Wednesday. The Sunrise Rotary is selling Hunters Stew (a blend of venison/buffalo, prepared by the Pet BayView Country Club Chef). Each meal is $25 and consists of 8oz of stew, salad, roll, cookie. Proceeds support the venison for manna project that has collected over 10 tons of venison for area food pantries. To order, simply contact Andy Hayes ahayes@chartermi.net. You can call Andy with questions 231-838-4959. Thank you!

Calendar News:  Members need to contact Karen Ragland to arrange pick up of calendars. 734-320-0424 or karenmragland@comcast.net.

Also, very IMPORTANT: Calendar Caution: Members please NO NOT cover up ticket number when applying labels. It makes it impossible to assign your calendar buyers to a specific number.

NOTE ABOUT ANNOUNCEMENTS:  Going forward, announcements will be limited to Rotary-specific topics. If you have an announcement for personal or work projects, fundraisers, opportunities, or campaigns, you can email Terry Newton or Andrea Coronado to be shared in the newsletter and on social media. This will aid our efforts to keep meetings to one hour.

PROGRAM:

Today we were joined by Lauren Richards, the owner of Third Coast Canine Academy.

Lauren told us about her professional journey to becoming a dog trainer. It first began as a college student, when she worked at the Charlevoix Area Humane Society. In 2022, she established her business - Third Coast Canine Academy - which offers both individual lessons and a "doggie boot camp" where dogs board & train at the Academy for 10 days.

Lauren had one of her own dogs, Pepper, present - who beautifully demonstrated Lauren's training abilities.

We wrapped up with a robust Q&A session, with many Rotarians asking Lauren for advice on their own pooches.

President Reg said he was inspired to host a "Bring Your Dog to Rotary Day" in the future, likely to take place in the Rose Garden.

Next Week’s Program:  Beth Wemigwase-Harbor Springs Historical Society

2024 PAUL HARRIS FELLOW SUSTAINING MEMBER POOL

Giving to The Rotary Foundation supports the many programs and projects around the world, and of course supports the continued effort to eradicate polio completely.

This Paul Harris Fellow Sustaining Member Pool will give you the opportunity to give to The Rotary Foundation on a quarterly basis along with other Rotarians in our club.

Each quarter, starting with the first quarter of 2024, you will make a $50 donation to the Rotary Foundation. Once a total of $1,000 has accumulated in the pool, one name will be drawn and a Paul Harris Fellow will be designated. This will continue until each person in the pool has paid the full $1,000 and all the names in the pool are drawn.

For questions, please contact Dibby Smith at 231-881-3804 (cell), or email dibbys@aol.com

Yes, I, _____________________________________ would like to participate in the Paul Harris Sustaining Member Pool of the Rotary Club of Petoskey beginning with the 1st quarter of 2024. I agree to make a contribution of $50 per quarter to The Rotary Foundation until I have completed the $1,000 donation.
