President Steve Cross opened the meeting on a partly sunny, cool September day. Fall is on the way

Howard Richards led us in “America the Beautiful”

Four Way Test:  Ric Loyd 

Invocation:  BJ Shawn “Humor”

Singing/Song:  Georgia Abbott and Howard Richards led us in singing “Autumn Leaves” English translation by Johnny Mercer and recorded by Frank Sinatra. I am treating you to Eva Cassidy’s version. We then sang “Smile”

President Cross told us a story About a man traveling & chose to visit a pumpkin patch. You had to have been there

Billy/Duff Outing:  Jim Beno let us know that there will be a fall Billy/Duff gathering on October 4th. Bring a dish to pass, beverages and ham provided. $10 for members, $8 for spouses and $5 for kids. Flyer Attached

Calendar Sales:  Jim Beno and Jeff Bodette stated calendars will be distributed September 26th

Roadside clean-up: Saturday, September 29th, 9:00 am – 11:00 am, Meet at Walloon Lake Marina on Hwy 131 Signup sheet is on the website and Terry sent out an email where you can sign up

Pedaling for Polio:  John Scholten is participating in an Ironman Triathlon in Cincinnati, September 29th, and he will be leading Pedaling for Polio October 6th. The Gates foundation will be donating a two to one match. You can participate in the ride, collect pledges or donate money to the cause

Diamonds & Denim:  Mike Snyder is promoting ticket sales for Diamonds & Denim, Saturday, September 22nd. Drew Smith and others led us through registering on-line

PROGRAM:

Melissa Thompson introduced our speaker, Amy Gillard. Amy told us about the Harbor Springs Festival of the Book, September 28th - 30th. Authors (48) will be coming into town and lead and participate in discussions about books they have written. The categories are cooking, early reader, fiction, middle grade, mystery, nonfiction, picture book, poetry and young adult. There is also a bourbon tasting. This is the third year for this event. Most of the activities are free to the public. Their website is www.hsfotb.org

New Member:  Lisa Hammond was approved for admission to the Rotary Club of Petoskey at the September 11th Rotary Board meeting. This is the second of a two-week member notification

DIRECTIONS TO THE BILLY-DUFF CABIN

Take Pleasantview Rd. North until it ends at Robinson Rd. 

Turn right onto Robinson Rd. and then take the next left back onto Pleasantview Rd. (about ½ mile)

Go to Levering Rd. and turn left onto Levering Rd.

Go about 2 miles and turn right onto Canby Rd. 

Go about ¾ mile and turn left onto Creekside Dr.

Follow to the end keeping left on the two track to the cabin…For a great time!
