1921 – 2021         100 Years of Service Above Self

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Petoskey via Zoom on the world wide web. Ashley Whitney, President officiated the meeting. If you did not get the chance to attend, you can watch it from this:  Recording

Pledge/Anthem:  Howard Richards Played “My Country tis of Thee”

4-Way Test:  Eric Leister

Invocation:  Jean Frentz

Cowardice asks the question, is it safe?  Expediency asks the question, is it political?  Vanity asks the question, is it popular?  But conscience asks the question, is it right?  And there comes a time when we must take a position that is neither safe, nor political, nor popular, but one must take it because it is right.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

4th of July Festivities:  Sunrise Rotary has taken over Petoskey's annual 4th of July festivities. Rotary swag:  Our club is once again partnering with Harbor Springs-based Carter's Imagewear to offer our members apparel and accessories featuring the Rotary Club of Petoskey logo. In addition to general logowear, there will also be a handful of 100th Anniversary edition products available. Stay tuned for more info!!

PROGRAM

Today we were joined by Bert Rousseau, who specializes in foster care on behalf of the 7th Probate Family Court based in Charlevoix.

Bert & team administer court-ordered foster care for teens aged 13-17 with substance abuse issues. These teens are temporarily housed with a foster family (usually 6-8 months) as they recover from their substance abuse and work to get their lives back on track.

To become a foster parent:

  • need to be age 18+

  • need to have adequate income to meet family needs

  • be of good moral character - no serious criminal history

  • willingness to provide care for the children

  • willingness to learn how to care for youth recovering from substance abuse

  • willingness to work with the youth's family

  • be a legal US resident

Please contact Bert Rousseau at 231-547-4085 or rousseaub@charlevoixcounty.org if you would like to learn more about this program.

Next Week’s Program:  Doug Tippett - NCMC - College Central Network - connecting students and alumni with jobs

Parting Shots:  Howard Richards closed with 1929 Fats Waller “Ain’t Misbehavin”

No one to talk with
All by myself
No one to walk with
But I'm happy on the shelf
Ain't misbehavin'
I'm savin' my love for you

I know for certain
The one I love
I'm through with flirtin'
It's just you I'm thinkin' of
Ain't misbehavin'
I'm savin' my love for you

Like Jack Horner
In the corner
Don't go nowhere
What do I care?
Your kisses are worth waitin' for
Believe me

I don't stay out late
Don't care to go
I'm home about eight
Just me and my radio
Ain't misbehavin'
I'm savin' my love for you

Like Jack Horner
In the corner
Don't go nowhere
What do I care?
Your kisses are worth waitin' for
Believe me

I don't stay out late
Don't care to go
I'm home about eight
Just me and my radio
Ain't misbehavin'
I'm savin' my love for you
