Petoskey Rotary Noon Club NEWSLETTER

December 14, 2022

101 Years of Service Above Self

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Petoskey. President Jeff Wynder officiated the meeting. If you did not get the chance to attend, you can read about it from this newsletter.

Pledge/Anthem:  Howard Richards led us in My Country tis of Thee

4-Way Test:  Jane Millar

Invocation:  Jean Frentz

It was Charles Dicken’s book A Christmas Carol in 1843 that revived Christmas as we know it.  The Puritans had stamped out much of what was left of the joy of Christmas.  In contrast, Dickens described the holidays as a ‘good time:  a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time; the only time of the long calendar year when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of other people…  “Of all the months of the year there is not a month half so full of happy associations as the last month of the year.”

So, fellow Rotarians, share the joyous hope of the season with all your friends and neighbors near and far.

PROGRAM:

Julie Saunders

To harken in the holiday season, Petoskey High School Madrigal Singers joined noon Rotary for a festive lineup of holiday songs. Julie Saunders has directed the group for the past 20 years and also performed as a singer during her own time in high school.

A madrigal is a vocal music composition of the Renaissance and early Baroque eras which is performed a cappella. The Petoskey Madrigal costumes reflect this influence. Students dress in Elizabethan era garments, sewn from tapestry and velvet which is ornately decorated.
But it’s the music that truly celebrates the spirit of the holiday season, the culmination of a year of hard work for the madrigal singers, who study and practice daily throughout the school year.

Thank you all who sponsored a lunch, we had a balance leftover to be able to make a donation to The Madrigal program.

Next Week’s Program:  Jennifer Wixson NCMC Early Childhood Program

One-Week Notification:  Kathy Petersen was voted into the Rotary Club of Petoskey, by unanimous consent at yesterday’s board meeting and this is her one-week notification to the club.
