International Insight:  Clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education are basic necessities for a healthy environment and productive life.  Through Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programs, Rotary clubs mobilize resources, form partnerships, and invest in the infrastructure necessary to provide this basic necessity.

ANNOUNCEMENTS  

President Reg Smith made a special announcement for Rotarians who are coming back from their winter havens; Steve Brown from Arizona, Gary Baxter from Florida and Roy Longworth coming back from Arizona.

Magic by Reg & Brian:  Reg and Brian Wagner are going to switch leadership positions for a week.  Reg will lead the Petoskey Sunrise meeting on May 14th - and invites noon members to join him at 7:30 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church.  Brian will lead the Petoskey Rotary Noon meeting on May 15.

Petoskey Garden Club:  The Petoskey Garden Club will hold its gala-fundraiser on June 24.

Exchange of Officers:  Our exchange of officers is scheduled for June 27 at the Perry.

Top of MI Races:  Doug Buck informed the club that we are once again sponsoring the Top of MI Races and providing an aid station at Magnuss Park. May 25 at 7:45 a.m. Doug is looking for volunteers, and particularly for a champion who could oversee the aid station while he runs in the race.

NCMC College Notes:  President David Finley thanked Rotary (in person and by note) for the $15,000 in support of the students in the College's Fast Track programs. He also thanked Reg for presenting the Come-Back Athlete of the Year Award at North Central last week. (I looked on the website for pictures but, no luck;(.

Parade of Roses:  Already thinking about ringing in the new year?  For more than 40 years, Rotary has been a part of the Parade of Roses. For more information see https://www.rotaryfloat.org/

Women’s Resource Center Invitation:  The Women’s Resource Center has invited our club to the groundbreaking of their new location on May 14, 2024. For details, see Rotarian Andrea Koch. Last month, Rotary donated $50,000 to the project and will be recognized on signage at the new Children’s Learning Center.

STRIVE Banquet Invitation:  Rotarians are invited to the STRIVE Banquet & Awards on May 14th, 5:30-7:00pm in the Reycraft Room at the Perry Hotel.  Students will receive awards based on their attendance and special affirmation awards will be given to recognize them for positive attitudes.

Camp Daggett Invitation:  Camp Daggett is hosting a Walkabout Wednesday event on May 8, 2024 with the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce. We would love to host some Rotarians. The event is from 8 am to 10 am at Camp Daggett - address below. Light refreshments will be served and guests are given the opportunity to explore our property; Camp Daggett; 03001 Church Rd., Petoskey, MI 49770

A special “thank you” from Liz McKenney, Camp Daggett Executive Director, for the funding to support day camps. Camps sold out in a record 8 minutes with wait lists of up to 50 kids.

District 6290 Conference:  Save the date for the Rotary District 6290 Conference “Hoofbeats and Handshakes” May 2-4 at the Double JJ Resort in Rothbury, MI.

Rotary Peace Fellowships:  Each year, Rotary awards fully funded fellowships for dedicated leaders for continued education focused on peace. Applications now open!

PROGRAM  Teacher of the Year

We honored Lynne Lesky as the Teacher of the Year.  Lynne was joined by her husband, Gary and by Asst. Principal Rob Harris. And, of course, Superintendent and Rotarian Jeff Leslie was there as well.
