ANNOUNCEMENTS

Fellowship: “First Thursday”, August 6th, 2015 will be held this month at City Park Grill. Please bring friends and family and share a cocktail (or two) with fellow Rotarians. Plan on meeting around 5:30 p.m. Many thanks to Steve Cross for putting this together every month

Announcement Cards:  Beginning in July an announcement card will be filled out and given to Dave Thomas prior to the meeting. This will assist in having all the information and streamline the process in order to provide more time for our guest speaker. Cards will be found at the Secretary’s table when checking in

President’s Fund:  Past President, Steve Brummeler, read the thank you note he received from the Petoskey High School Band.  Steve donated the funds available to him as President. I am sure the Band was more than pleased to receive a check for $5,000. A special Kudos to Past President Steve from all of us who are former High School Band members

Snow White:  Gather up your children and grandchildren and get them to the Crooked Tree Arts Center for the Little Traverse Civic Theatre’s production of “Snow White”. Tickets are for general seating and can be purchased at the door for $10.00 (adult) and $5.00 (children). Performances are July 30th through August 2nd. Reg Smith’s daughter is a member of the cast

MANNA:  Jean Frentz distributed Meijer Store donation cards. Help Fight Local Hunger is a program created by Meijer to help neighborhood food pantries, which are struggling to keep shelves stocked. Bring the card to a Meijer store where it can be purchased for $10.00. Once purchased, Meijer will contribute an additional $10.00. On September 5th and 6th, Meijer will triple their donation. You give $10 and Meijer will give $30. Remember that this assists us in fulfilling the needs of our Backpack Program

Checks for Diamonds & Denim:  Cindi Bauer and Ingrid Flemming ask that you make a notation on the check as to where you would like your dollars allocated. This will greatly assist in accurate book keeping and financial compliance

Diamonds & Denim:  Please begin bringing in your bottles of wine for the Basket Raffle. Ingrid Flemming will collect and store them. This item brings in money and we are attempting to have a live-auction item “Wall of Wine”. We need around 80 bottles to accomplish this. Bottles of wine should be $20.00 to $25.00 in value. This is a very easy way to participate in the event

Solicitation for Auction Items:  Please coordinate with Cindi Bauer or Bill Collins regarding the businesses you will be contacting. A Master List has been created which will be used by both our Club and the Trails Council. We do not want to have more than one person contacting business owners for a donation. Your assistance with this endeavor will be greatly appreciated

PROGRAM
Dr. Daniel Moser and Toby Jones, from Bay View, were our guest speakers today. Dr. Moser discussed worship and Toby Jones discussed education at our favorite Chautauqua; Bay View and the many programs they have through the summer season. Toby Jones, Director of Education, has been with Bay View for 53 summers. There are 55 courses offered in Visual Arts, Culinary Arts, Exercise and Fitness, Bridge and wonderful children’s programs. There are book readings and discussions. A few upcoming programs are the Opera “LA Boheme” (August 11th, 13th, 14, and 16th), Asbury Film Fest as well as the ever popular, Phantom of the Opera.
A few offerings under the Worship Pillar are The Great Issues Classes and wonderful speakers such as C. Michael Hawn with a Global Christian Music presentation, Rev. Becca Stevens founder of the Magdalene Project and Thistle Farms www.thistlefarms.org and the C.S. Lewis Festival www.cslewisfestival.org

The Mission of the Education Pillar is “To promote lifelong learning in Northern Michigan at an affordable price.”  Bay View still struggles with the misconception that the programs are not open to the public. They are! Please assist in getting this message out to the community

Our speaker next week will be Gail Gruenwald from Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council. She will be updating us on water issues.
